Can anyone tell me if it’s possible to limit the number of folders that can be seen on Apple mail when using IMAP.
I simply don’t want all my folders to be downloaded, just the major ones ones I use. The runbox. help section really doesn’t seem to provide much guidance, or I have not found the right section, in this area for the Apple mail app.
There is a feature in some email programs that uses an IMAP feature called “subscribed folders” and this is an industry standard. The Runbox servers support this, but not all email programs do. Apple Mail doesn’t use subscribed folders and just shows all the folders in your account. Thunderbird does and will let you choose which email folders you see.
You may also have seen the way Gmail presents its labels as folders via IMAP and this is a different way of controlling which labels/folders you can see via email and not an email standard.
Thank you, Dave.
As always, knowledgeable and helpful
My next question is this :
in terms of an iPhone is there any app you would recommend that I could use / download on the iPhone iOS system that would control the folders. Apparently, Thunderbird will have an app out, but not until the end of the year.
For me, it’s all about security and not having my mobile potentially showing all my confidential emails if it got compromised in someway.
@kenfran I must admit it isn’t something I’ve ever looked in to with regards to mobile devices. I don’t think there are many if any. I’ve just read on a forum elsewhere that maybe Canary does this but I haven’t used it myself to verify that.
