I’m new to runbox and have followed all the documentation to set up accounts, aliases, configure email, etc. I’ve successfully got email coming in.
One of the first things I started doing was importing email from my old accounts. I had about 6 different email addresses on my main domain so it took me a bit to wrap my head around one main account with aliases routing to folders instead but I think I like this new paradigm.
Anyway, I imported 3 of my smaller email accounts to get the feel of it. I couldn’t get IMAP Importer to work (one quick, feeble attempt) so just left my email client configured pointing to the original account and created a new one pointing to the new runbox account. This worked and I was able to drag folders and emails between the two email accounts in my email client program to transfer large amounts of messages from the old IMAP accounts to the runbox ones.
As I moved to do this with the last two email addresses (the big ones with thousands of messages in dozens of folders spanning several years), I had moved several large bunches of emails when it suddenly started getting timeout errors and then just stopped working; well mostly stopped working. I discovered that messages that had been fully downloaded to my email client were able to be moved over without a problem but ones that first had to access the old IMAP server to download the complete message failed with an error. Try as I might I suddenly could not get my email client to connect to the old IMAP server anymore. I started reading about DKIM records and other esoteric DNS things and finally decided to try the IMAP Import here again. (NOTE: Nothing wrong with runbox at this point, this is all DNS/IMAP stuff relating to my old email account.)
After a couple of failed attempts at the IMAP Importer again, I re-read the fine print more carefully (and entered the “real” host name for the email server) and finally got success! Well, a small success.
There are over 6,000 messages in my main inbox folder (yes, time for some cleaning!) and hundreds in other folders, but look at these completed status (non-interesting lines removed):
Transfer time : 433.9 sec
Folders synced : 1/85 synced
Messages transferred : 472
Messages skipped : 1670
Total bytes transferred : 50117879 (47.796 MiB)
Total bytes skipped : 136464457 (130.143 MiB)

Memory/biggest message ratio : 36.0
Start difference host2 - host1 : -49193 messages, -6477568667 bytes (-6.033 GiB)
Final difference host2 - host1 : NA messages, NA bytes (NA)
Detected 2 errors
And the second attempt:
Transfer time : 1225.7 sec
Folders synced : 1/85 synced
Messages transferred : 998
Messages skipped : 2399
Total bytes transferred : 199791965 (190.536 MiB)

Total bytes error : 17871889 (17.044 MiB)
Biggest message : 32422689 bytes (30.921 MiB)
Memory/biggest message ratio : 10.4
Start difference host2 - host1 : -48717 messages, -6425654833 bytes (-5.984 GiB)
Final difference host2 - host1 : NA messages, NA bytes (NA)
Detected 2 errors
These are for the same email address on the same server but there’s such a big difference. What do some of these mean? Did the errors break the import? Is there some other way to get all these emails moved over?
Thanks,
David.
