Missing notification on full storage

When transferring e-mails over from other accounts using Thunderbird, and before deleting duplicates and large messages, I was suddenly using 120% of my plan’s e-mail storage for a couple of days. As far as I can tell (testing with direct e-mails), my account could not receive e-mail as long as I was above the limit, which is OK, but I was not notified of this! There should definitely be an e-mail in the inbox from Runbox as soon as this block activates.

I don’t know if I have missed any communications, and could not inform anyone I was expecting to contact/reply to me in this period. Further, I could not find any information on this inbox blocking in the Runbox documentation.

@Baring Thanks for your post about this and sorry about the delay getting a reply back to you. I won’t be able to give you a satisfactory resolution to this in my reply as it is something we need to work on, but I can explain why this happens.

Our system only periodically checks your usage and in normal everyday use if you use more and more of your storage eventually the checks do trigger several emails letting you know you are reaching your limit. When the limit it reached an "over quota’ flag is set in the account and it can no longer receive emails.

When importing a lot of email from another service the use of storage can increase rapidly and beyond your allocation before the system does its routine check on how much storage you are using. Then when it finds the account over quota it sets the “over quota” flag before any of the usual emails about storage being used can be sent out.

It’s not graceful and needs to suit modern usage when transferring from one email service to another.

Sorry to hear this has caused you inconvenience. We are aware of the issue though it only comes up now and again rather than regularly. Thank you.
