Runbox mail account on iPhone 16 error

I’ve accessed my Runbox email on my iPhones for the last couple of years. I have an iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 26.3.1. Now I’m getting a “Password Incorrect” error when I open up the Mail app.

My password still works to access webmail. I deleted the Runbox account on my iPhone and re-added it using the same password and the settings described in Runbox support documentation. I restarted my iPhone and I still get the “Password Incorrect error.”

Why is this happening?

This was a mail server issue affecting hundreds of Runbox accounts. It has been resolved.

True , when there are issues on the serverside (not reachable imap servers), the Apple Mail app on iOS/iPadOS keeps asking for passwords. Very annoying as the password is stored in it’s keychain.
