Hi there, @saunada - how did you get the account set up on DavX5? I just get the message “Couldn’t find CalDAV or CardDAV service” when I try to set it up.
Grateful for any tips!

Make sure you have turned on ‘WebDav’ under account/account security/manage services.
Then I use a separate APP Password for DavX5 and set this in the account/account security/App passwords window.
Then when you configure you DavX account on your phone make sure you use the correct URL https://dav.runbox.com/
and the password configured in the previous step along with my email address to login (i.e. use the ‘Login with URL and user name’ option in DavX5).
Hope this helps
DAVx5 works great. Have you set up the app password in Runbox security if you are using 2FA?
Did you use dav.runbox.com for Caldav and Carddav servers?
Can you provide some screen shots of your settings?
Thanks both! I think it was the 2FA that was causing problems, set up an app password and that seems to have done the trick
Thanks!
Having the same problem, but not sure where the security settings to turn on Webdav in the chromebook is. Unfortunately, I’m not finding it.
Sorry for being so needy, but could you detail the location?
I think you misunderstood. Or I wasn’t clear enough.
You need to log into your runbox account (via the web interface) and then choose account/account security/manage services from your ‘runbox’ account - not your chromeos settings - and go from there.
You are turning on the webdav ‘service’ of your runbox account.
I hope that is clearer.
Hoping someone can walk me through getting DAVx5 working with Runbox and a couple of Android devices again.I previously had this working between 3 Android phones. 2 of those phones no longer function and when I open up DAVx5 on the remaining phone, the account is there but I no longer had an address book under the CardDAV tab.
I created a new address book (using the Runbox server, which was already autofilled) , exported my contacts from my phone and imported them to the new address book. I was hoping to see them appear in Runbox 7. My contacts are currently empty and I think they had never appeared from my previous address book. I’ve also tried syncing a new Android phone by adding my Runbox account with the login using URL and password option, and it can’t find the account.
Would love some guidance on maybe something I’ve overlooked.
I don’t know what changed, but this morning my old address books showed up on my old Android phone along with the new one I created, but they are are showing an internal server error for all of the address books trying to sync. Nevertheless, I tried adding my account to my new phone, which promptly showed all 4 address books on my account. I synced the latest one only to try and avoid duplicates and the contacts are now showing on my phone.
They are still not showing in Runbox however and I’d feel more secure if they were also there. Any tips on how to get them to show up? I’m using the dav runbox URL, so it appears my contacts are going through Runbox servers. Don’t know what to try next.
When you say “they are still not showing in Runbox” do you mean in RB6 or RB7 or both?
RB7. I haven’t checked RB6, as I thought that didn’t support CardDAV?
That’s correct. I know that, but I didn’t know if you did.
I don’t use CardDAV on my Android 'phone, but I do on my computer (using CardBook in Thunderbird) and that works OK with Runbox.
Just to check, the contacts that you have in Thunderbird show up in RB7? The sync is supposed to be multi-directional, right? Is there a setting in Runbox I need to check to view the contacts?
Just to be clear, I have multiple e-mail accounts in Thunderbird.
I have 2 x CardDAV address books - one for Runbox, and another for Fastmail.
The contacts in the Fastmail address book are not visible in the Runbox address book and vice versa - they are separate entities.
Any contacts that I create or edit in the Runbox address book in Thunderbird, are synced with my Runbox RB7 contacts. It’s multi-directional.
Thanks for the clarification. In RB7, is there some UI for forcing a CardDAV sync? When I use the DAVx5 software on my Android phones I can see 4 address books on devices that are logged into the account and a checkbox next to the ones I want to sync to that particular device. I’d assume that all 4 address books should be syncing to Runbox, because they are all using the same Runbox account info and URL. But why has nothing ever shown up?
I’m not aware of anything in the Runbox UI for forcing the sync, there is a setting in CardBook in Thunderbird for the syncing, and that’s what I’ve used.
Perhaps consider sending an e-mail to Runbox Support, and reporting the problem. You may get a quick response that way.
Thanks. Will do. When it seemed to not be working entirely, I figured it was a DAVx5 configuration issue. Now that the phones appear to be communicating with each other that gives me a little more confidence there’s something on the Runbox side.
We’re aware that some customers find DAVx5 and Thunderbird (with an appropriate add-on) works fine with the Runbox CardDAV service and other customers have problems. We’ve done some investigating and we think this is to do with discrepancies between where the contact clients are looking for contacts and where they are actually stored.
We’re collecting a number of these issues together (and some relating to CalDAV as it’s the same service) and will look at them as part of a bigger project to improve these services. We don’t have a date for when we will do that yet, but it is something we are aware of and are gathering more information on the issues.
Thanks for this feedback, Dave. Missed it until now. Is there a CardDAV client that you’ve seen reports of having more success with Runbox? I’m neutral on what I use, just want a way to make sure my contacts are synced between two phones and also stored in Runbox.
Any news/progress on this?
Hello. There is still no date for when we will progress this project. Sorry for the ongoing delays. Thank you.
